Akal Academy, Baru Sahib

Harvinder Kaur on Sarangi, Gurjinder Kaur on Dilruba, Satpal Kaur on Sitar, Gurmeet Kaur (harmonium), Gagandeep Kaur (Tabla) and Harmeet Kaur

On May 6, 2005, we had a visit by a Jatha from The Akal Academy, Baru Sahib. These young women have been visiting the US for several years, bringing their Dhadhi Vars and Kirtan to Sangats all over the country. While a visit by the Baru Sahib children has always been a much anticipated event, this time, their Kirtan was different in a very profound way. Over the past year, the children have take up several stringed instruments, such as the Sitar, the Dilruba and the Sarangi. Considering the fact that they have been working with these instruments for less than a year, their Kirtan was quite extraordinary !
